Firefighter Indicted for Hit-And-Run On Pedestrian

WELLSBURG - A Brooke County grand jury indicted 25 people this week, including a Beech Bottom volunteer firefighter who allegedly fled after striking a pedestrian with a vehicle while responding to a fire.

Jayson E. Merigo, 40, of 4789 Apple Pie Ridge, Wellsburg, was indicted for intentionally leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury on Aug. 9. According to police reports, Merigo was responding to a tractor fire near Apple Pie Ridge in a pickup truck when he approached two stopped vehicles at a crest in the road and struck a pedestrian, resulting in the man having two broken legs and other injuries.

According to the indictment, Merigo left the scene without stopping to offer aid to the man.

Meanwhile, Amanda J. Tsoras, 45, of Wheeling was indicted for fleeing with reckless indifference and gross neglect creating risk of death or serious injury for allegedly fleeing a Brooke County sheriff's deputy at high rates of speed and with two children in her vehicle on Aug. 21.

Michael T. Malson, 27, of 1 Shelby Lane, Beech Bottom was indicted on counts of fleeing while under the influence and with reckless indifference to the safety of others. According to the indictment, Malson fled a Brooke County sheriff's deputy at high rates of speed and through active work zones on Sept. 15.

Landon C. Hollis, 19, of 206 Viola Lane, Follansbee was indicted for fleeing in a vehicle with reckless disregard for the safety of others after allegedly leading sheriff's deputies from Brooke and Ohio counties on a chase on June 25. According to police reports, Hollis exceeded the speed limit numerous times and passed through multiple stop signs as deputies pursued him from W.Va. 2 in Wellsburg to GC&P Road in Ohio County. The reports state two passengers were in Hollis' vehicle.
