West Virginia First Lady Cathy Justice has revealed her official limited edition Christmas ornament for 2020, a tribute to the tradition of quilting in the Mountain State.
Justice unveiled the ornament Thursday, a 4-inch-by-4-inch quilted square made by Huntington artist Cassie Mace. The front of the ornament features a patchwork cutout of the state of West Virginia with a snowflake motif background.
"Over the past three years, we had done three different mediums for our ornament," Justice said. "So for our fourth year, we wanted to do something different and thought a quilted ornament would be really appreciated. Appalachia is famous for quilting. There are many West Virginians who still quilt to this very day."
Only 500 ornaments were made, and each is individually numbered on the reverse side. The ornaments are $22 each and available for purchase at the Culture Center in Charleston and at Tamarack in Beckley.
