WHEELING - As the Barnes & Noble bookstores at all three West Virginia Northern Community College campuses close, the college is starting an online bookstore that will serve WVNCC for all their course material needs.
The college has partnered with Akademos, a virtual campus bookstore, to create a full-service online store for course materials, branded merchandise and apparel. The bookstore is live and students can order books for the spring semester. The online store for apparel and other logoed items will launch in early December.
"Partnering with Akademos allows us to expand the offerings and capabilities of our bookstore and to increase convenience and cost savings," WVNCC President Dr. Daniel Mosser said in a university release. "This decision contributes to our overall mission to educate and empower our students with all of the tools they need to succeed including access to a wider selection of affordable course materials and WVNCC apparel and merchandise."
WVNCC's store can now focus on accessibility and affordability allowing students to order new and used books, rentals, eBook and interactive digital courseware. It also will offer free shipping and guaranteed buyback options.
Faculty will have access to a customized adoptions portal, that will allow them to research, compare and adopt course materials simply and efficiently.
The Barnes & Noble bookstores on the Wheeling, Weirton and New Martinsville campuses will close. The cafe portion of the Wheeling campus bookstore at the corner of Market and 16th St. will close Wednesday, but the store will remain available to Northern students after that date.
It has not been determined what will occupy the first floor of the Wheeling site after the bookstore finally closes. The campus' student union sits on the second floor.
