WHEELING -- Emergency crews in the city of Wheeling may soon be seeing some upgrades as city council is slated to introduce legislation for purchases of new fire and emergency medical service equipment totaling more than a half million dollars.
Among the items on tonight's Wheeling City Council agenda are ordinances authorizing City Manager Robert Herron to spend funds for various fire and EMS needs.
City council will be at 5:30 p.m. today for its last regularly scheduled meeting of the calendar year.
The Finance Committee of Council will be beforehand at 5:15 p.m. to discuss the November financial report.
Both meetings will be held virtually online and can be viewed live via the city's official Facebook page.
One ordinance scheduled to be introduced tonight authorizes the city manager to spend $458,761 with Atlantic Emergency Solutions of Manassas, Va., for the purchase of two 2021 Ford E-450 Type 1 ambulances.
This purchase is to be charged to the city's Project Fund.
Another ordinance up for a first reading tonight authorizes the purchase of three Lifepacks from Stryker Medical of Chicago in the amount of $70,510.
Each unit includes monitors, defibrillators and accessories to be used by the Wheeling Fire Department, and the cost of the purchase is to be paid through the city's RCIP (Restricted Capital Improvement Program) fund.
An additional ordinance set to be introduced tonight is for the purchase from Fire Force Inc. of Pittsburgh of Fire Dex coats and pants. The total purchase is for $22,180 and is to be charged to the city's Fire Equipment Fund.
Other new pieces of legislation slated to be introduced before Wheeling City Council tonight include:
* a resolution authorizing the city manager to negotiate the terms and enter into an agreement with the U.S. Economic Development Administration. The resolution relates to the city's commitment of $19,000 to the USEDA Remote Worker Feasibility Study.
These funds will be used as a match for the Bel-O-Mar Regional Council, in partnership with Wheeling Heritage and the Economic Development Administration application to complete an in-depth study of how the city can "diversify its economy and recover from job loss and population decline by creating an accommodating environment for remote workers."
* a resolution authorizing the city manager to execute an oil and gas lease with SWN Production Company LLC for slightly more than 7.9 acres of property. A public hearing related to this resolution is scheduled to take place at the beginning of the council meeting.
* a resolution establishing a municipal tree board for the city.
* a resolution considering supplemental parameters related to the issuance of bond anticipation notes to fund the combined water and sewer system improvements downtown ahead of the coming Wheeling Streetscape Project next spring.
