As Ohio Valley residents continue digging themselves out of several days of snow, the forecast becomes a bit clearer this weekend.

With the exception of a half-inch of snow predicted for Saturday, residents can expect to see drier conditions accompanied by colder temperatures through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Coraopolis, Pa.

Nearly six inches of snow blanketed the area Monday night through Tuesday morning and people woke up Thursday morning to another snow salvo. As much as two inches was predicted.

After that much precipitation, folks around the valley will be ready for a break in shoveling sidewalks and driveways and clearing off cars. City of Wheeling crews continued clearing piles of snow from the sides of the Streets in the Centre Wheeling area Wednesday as it piled up around parking meters.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Pat Herold said the forecast as of Wednesday afternoon calls for drier weather conditions with colder temperatures moving into the weekend.

He said beginning Thursday afternoon through Friday, the forecast calls for an "improving" situation from earlier this week. He said only about a half inch of snow should fall in the Wheeling area on Saturday with a dry Sunday to follow.

"That will be a progressive system (Saturday), so that's not going to cause you too many issues either," Herold explained.

Despite the drier conditions, Herold said the temperatures will begin dropping moving through the weekend into Monday.

He said that, Thursday night through Friday morning, the weather service is calling for low temperatures to hover around the low 20s, with highs around the freezing mark. He added that lows are expected to drop into the upper teens on Saturday and Sunday, with daytime high temperatures only reaching the upper 20s on Sunday.

Herold said while the trend moving into the early part of next week is calling for colder temperatures, especially on Monday with a predicted low of 10 degrees and a high only reaching the mid-20s. Those temperatures are still considered "seasonable" for February.
