Nine-Month Interstate 70 Closure Begins in Wheeling

1 min read

Road crews quickly move barrels into place on I-70 East near the Wheeling Tunnel Monday morning as Swank Construction closed the section of I-70 from Exit 1B -- U.S. 250/W.Va. 2 South -- to Exit 2A -- the Oglebay Park exit, as demolition and construction of the eastbound section of the Fulton Bridge is scheduled to take place over the next nine months as part of the I-70 Bridges Project. Crews closed also the W.Va 2/U.S. 250 north on-ramp to I-70 East as part of the project. Motorists heading east on I-70 will need to find alternate routes to get to key places in Wheeling and Elm Grove, including Wheeling Hospital. Those motorists will need to use one of several detours to get to their destinations, depending on where they're coming from. (Photo by Scott McCloskey)
