Chicken wing aficionados can get their fix and help crown the top wing in the Ohio Valley, all for a good cause.
Wheeling Health Right is holding its new fundraiser, JUST WING IT!, featuring local restaurants that will present their wings in five categories to area judges. Those judges will crown the top wings during a live-streamed broadcast at 2 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack.
That event is closed to the public due to COVID-19 concerns, but Ohio Valley residents still have a vote with the People's Choice contest. They can head to participating restaurants, buy a full order of wings and vote on their favorite by putting a dollar in the entry box.
That dollar will go to Wheeling Health Right and determine the People's Choice winner.
Participating restaurants include 19th Hole, Abbeys Restaurant and Lounge, Alpha Tavern, Belmont Brewerks, Dawgs Den, Eden Family Restaurant, Generations Restaurant & Pub, Hangover BBQ, Ig's Pigs BBQ, LaLa's VooDoo Lounge, Pickles Eatery & Bar, River City, Ruttenbucks Bar & Grill, Salsa Joe's Tex-Mex Smokehouse, Sha Nay Nay's Pizza, The Market Vines, TJ's Sports Garden Restaurant, Vagabond Kitchen and Wheeling Island Hotel Casino Racetrack.
Otey's Smokehouse and the Greater Wheeling Soup Kitchen will enter wings on Feb. 24, but not have wings available for purchase.
Residents can enter into drawings for prizes of participating restaurant gift cards. To be eligible, they must save receipts with wings listed on them and either mail, hand deliver or email along with their name and phone number to Wheeling Health Right no later than Feb. 22.
