The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department reported two more COVID-related deaths in the county in its Tuesday night update. There now have been 64 such deaths in Ohio County since the pandemic began.
The department also reported six new positive COVID-19 cases, bringing that total to 3,574.
The Marshall County Health Department reported 14 new confirmed positive COVID cases and eight new probable cases. That brings that county's totals to 2,215 confirmed cases, 590 probable cases, eight hospitalizations and 58 associated deaths.
Marshall County was the only county among the four in the Northern Panhandle to remain red, the highest-risk category, on the Department of Health and Human Resources Tuesday COVID-19 alert map. Hancock, Brooke and Ohio counties all were orange, a step above red on the category list.
The number of red counties in West Virginia shrank Tuesday. There only were 12 on Tuesday's map. Twenty-seven counties were orange, nine counties were gold, five were yellow and two were green, the map's safest color.
Hancock County had an infection rate of 36.69 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 7.18. Brooke County had an infection rate of 32.56 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 5.75.
Ohio County had an infection rate of 41.40 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 6.33. Marshall County had an infection rate of 60.83 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 9.31.
In Ohio, the Belmont County Health Department has confirmed 4,996 cases among residents since the pandemic's onset, with 669 isolated at home with active cases. There have been 4,182 recoveries, 54 people are hospitalized with the virus and 91 people have died after being infected. The latest fatality, a woman in her late 60s, was reported Tuesday.
