After the number of COVID-19 cases in West Virginia fell Monday to the lowest number since Oct. 30, statewide totals climbed slightly Friday according to the Department of Health and Human Services.
Active cases in West Virginia dropped to 5,176 active on Monday, but as of Friday, they ticked back up by 173 to 5,349 active cases. That still was the lowest total since the Oct. 31 total of 5,415.
Webster County was the only red county Friday on the DHHR COVID-19 alert map. Hospitalizations have crept up from 165 Monday to 199 Friday.
The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department reported seven new COVID-19 cases in its Friday night update. That brought the county's totals to 3,917 cases and 75 related deaths since the pandemic began.
The Marshall County Health Department on Friday morning reported four confirmed positive COVID-19 cases and three probable cases collected Thursday. That brought the county's totals to 2,433 positive cases, 672 probable cases and 63 related deaths.
Two Northern Panhandle counties were green and two were yellow on Friday's DHHR map. Hancock and Brooke were green, while Ohio and Marshall were yellow. Hancock County had an infection rate of 4.46 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 1.25. Brooke County had an infection rate of 4.56 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 1.19.
Ohio County had an infection rate of 17.25 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.51. Marshall County had an infection rate of 18.25 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.38.
In Ohio, the Belmont County Health Department reported 5,479 COVID-19 cases in Belmont County since the pandemic's onset, with 66 hospitalizations and 104 related deaths.
