John Marshall High School senior Grant Swift now has a national Elks scholarship to his name.
Swift was one of six West Virginia high school seniors to be named a national winner of the 2020-21 Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship contest. He was sponsored by the Wheeling Elks.
The son of Kathy and Randy Swift of Glen Dale, Grant Swift was selected as a delegate to the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders in Boston, Massachusetts. He was also selected to be a delegate for the Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Wheeling Cohort.
He is a four-year member of the varsity baseball team, as well as a four-year member of both the John Marshall band and the percussion ensemble. He volunteers at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Moundsville, and for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
Swift is 13th in his class with a 4.3 GPA, and plans to attend West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, where he will major in civil engineering and play on the baseball team.
Swift is guaranteed a four year scholarship award from the Elks for a minimum of $1,000 per year. He is also eligible for scholarship awards of an even higher amount subject to future judging to be conducted by the Elks and concluded by the end of April.
