More Traffic Pattern Shifts Coming for I-70 Bridges Project in Wheeling

Motorists on Interstate 70, already dealing with traffic pattern changes with the I-70 Bridges Project, can expect some more in several areas along that interstate.
West Virginia Division of Highways officials said that -- along with the scheduled shift of the single I-70 eastbound lane between the Bridgeport Marion Street exit to the Fort Henry Bridge beginning Tuesday -- single-lane closures are scheduled on Ohio 7 and in the Elm Grove area next week. The I-70 eastbound lane shift is part of a long-term traffic pattern change that will continue through approximately the end of 2021.
DOH officials said that, beginning Wednesday, there will be alternating single-lane closures on Ohio 7 in both directions beneath the I-70 overpass. These closures are expected to take place during daytime hours and continue through April 14.
Swank Construction is currently in the process of positioning platforms beneath the I-70 deck above Ohio 7, as they are expected to begin the removal of concrete and steel beams on bridge spans in that area in the coming weeks, according to West Virginia Division of Highways Area Engineer Mike Witherow.
The DOH also said that from Monday through Wednesday, there will be single-lane closures during the daytime hours in both directions on National Road between the Kruger Street intersection and the Overbrook Street intersection near I-70. Swank Construction will continue concrete and steel repairs on the I-70 bridge structures at that location.
Motorists should be alert for changing traffic patterns and to expect delays throughout all of the project areas.
