A Moundsville man faces several felony charges, including incest, after an alleged incident in November.
In late February, a sexual assault nurse at WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital contacted the Moundsville Police Department regarding a 13-year-old girl who said she had been assaulted by James Cusick, 23 of Moundsville, in November.
The girl told police that Cusick had been contacting her over Snapchat, and had come to her apartment to get something to eat. She said Cusick had pushed her against the counter and touched her inappropriately before forcibly disrobing her, throwing her on the couch, and allegedly sexually assaulting her.
Moundsville police made contact with Cusick, arresting him at his home. During a subsequent interview, Cusick initially denied that anything had happened, but later allegedly admitted to having sex with the girl. He said after around ten seconds, he stopped because "something in his head told him that what he was doing was wrong," according to the police report.
Cusick allegedly told police that he had known the girl for a few years, that she was younger than him by ten years, and that his actions constituted cheating on his wife.
Cusick was charged with incest, sexual abuse by a guardian or custodian, and third-degree sexual assault. He remains lodged at the Northern Regional Jail in lieu of $60,000 bond.
