Ohio County Spring Clean-Up Details Announced
Temperatures are rising, birds are singing and residents stuck at home and cleaning house for the last year have many items they need to dispose of this spring.
The Ohio County Solid Waste Authority has announced its spring clean up schedule for 2021.
Dumpsters will be placed in specific communities from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the designated day, and will be open for use by any resident living in Ohio County. Participants should be prepared to show proof of county residency.
City of Wheeling employees and volunteers in local neighborhoods will be monitoring sites.
The schedule is as follows
∫ March 30: 35th Street Ballfield by Wheeling Middle School.
∫ April 6: Garden Park, Richland Avenue, Warwood.
∫ April 10: Old Wheeling Dog Pound, Peninsula Street
∫ April 13: Pleasanton Playground by Wheeling University
∫ April 17: Clearview Community Center
∫ April 20: Bethlehem Ballfield parking lot
∫ April 24: (Two locations) Valley Grove Community Center; Triadelphia Town Building
∫ April 27: Wheeling Island Marina parking lot
∫ May 1: Stone Church Volunteer Fire Department
The following items will not be accepted at the sites: tires, car batteries, large appliances, motor oil, paing and any other potentially hazardous material.
The Ohio County Solid Waste Authority also operates a recycling center at The Highlands on a regular basis.
The site is located behind Hobby Lobby and Best Buy at The Highlands, and is open for drops off only from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays. The site is fenced off, and when closed it is monitored by cameras,
The site accepts plastics, as well as other types of ites.
Aluminum cans, such as soup cans, are accepted at the drop off site. What isn’t allowed are metal cans with liners that usually hold such things as cat food, Gwynn said.
Cardboard, paper and magazines can be brought to the recycling center. Prohibited are pizza boxes or waxed cardboard boxes such as milk cartons.
