W.Va. Active COVID Cases Lowest Since Halloween

The last time the state of West Virginia saw a total of active COVID-19 cases as low as what was reported Tuesday, people were debating whether to take their children trick-or-treating.

The Department of Health and Human Resources reported Tuesday morning that the latest total of active COVID cases was 5,424. The last time the total was that low was Oct. 31, when there were 5,415 active cases. After that, the active case count started to climb, reaching a high of 29,257 on Jan. 10.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department reported two new COVID-19 cases in its Tuesday night update. That brought the county's totals to 3,846 cases and 66 related deaths since the pandemic began.

The Marshall County Health Department had not updated its Facebook page with its latest COVID-19 totals as of 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Hancock and Brooke counties were green and Ohio and Marshall counties were yellow on the DHHR's Tuesday COVID-19 alert map. Hancock County had an infection rate of 4.96 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 1.34. Brooke County had an infection rate of 9.12 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 2.47.

Ohio County had an infection rate of 15.52 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.03. Marshall County had an infection rate of 17.78 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.19.
