West Liberty University To Hold In-Person Spring Commencements

West Liberty University will welcome students and some guests back to campus this spring for in-person commencement ceremonies, the university announced Wednesday.
In order to accommodate all safety rules of social distancing and to honor all graduates, WLU is planning five ceremonies. A graduate degree ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 7, three undergraduate degree ceremonies will take place Saturday May 8, and a graduate degree ceremony for physician assistant students will take place Friday, June 11.
University Vice President of Student Services Scott Cook said that invitation is extended to those who should have enjoyed an in-person commencement last year.
"We also invite 2020 graduates back to campus to participate," he said, "so that those who took part in virtual ceremonies only due to COVID-19 now have a chance to walk in a ceremony and be fully recognized as a graduate."
2020 graduates will be asked to complete a participation form, which is available on the WLU Registrar's webpage (westliberty.edu/registrar) under the graduation dropdown. This form must be completed for planning purposes.
Due to ongoing pandemic safety concerns, guests will be limited to two for each graduate and there will be no receptions following the ceremonies.
Tickets for guests can be picked up in the Enrollment Center, Shaw Hall, by the graduating student from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday, May 3 through Friday, May 7 and from 8 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, May 8. A photo ID is required.
Faculty will only participate in the ceremony for their respective colleges.
The ceremony for all graduate students, except for those in the PA program, will take place at 5 p.m., Friday, May 7, in the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex (ASRC). The three undergraduate ceremonies on May 8 will be divided by college and also take place in the ASRC:
– 9 a.m. May 8: the College of Education & Human Performance and the College of Liberal Arts
– Noon May 8: the College of Sciences
– 3 p.m. May 8: the College of Arts & Communication, the Gary E. West College of Business, and the School of Professional Studies.
All ceremonies will include a student speaker with names of these students released in the near future.
