Marshall County Returns to Gold on West Virginia COVID-19 Risk Map

Marshall County's stay at yellow on the Department of Health and Human Resources COVID-19 alert map was short-lived, and the county fell a rung lower to gold on Thursday morning's map.

The rest of the Northern Panhandle's four counties remained where they were on Wednesday's map, with Hancock County in yellow and Brooke and Ohio counties in green, the map's safest category.

Hancock County had an infection rate of 13.88 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 3.10. Brooke County had an infection rate of 11.07 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 2.05.

Ohio County had an infection rate of 16.90 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 2.42. Marshall County had an infection rate of 20.59 cases per 100,000 residents and a percent positivity of 4.49.

The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department announced 10 new positive COVID-19 cases in its Thursday night update, bringing that county's totals to 4.256 cases and 84 related deaths since the pandemic began.

The Marshall County Health Department announced five new confirmed positive cases and one new probable case in its Thursday night update. The county is sending people to the DHHR website for its latest totals, which were 2,434 confirmed cases, 870 probable cases and 77 related deaths.

In Ohio, the Belmont County Health Department announced 5,981 total cases and 116 related deaths, the latest -- a man in his 80s -- being announced Thursday.
