Warwood Lions Club Helps Easterseals

A recent Warwood "roadblock" allowed the Warwood Lions Club to hand Easterseals the largest donation it ever collected from the event.
The Warwood Lions Club presented Easterseals with an $1,800 check Thursday at the Easterseals headquarters. According to the club, it was the largest sum they had ever gathered from the weekend "roadblock," where they collected donations from drivers passing through the Warwood community.
It was a welcome helping hand, Easterseals CEO Jay Prager said. Community support makes up about a third of revenues that cover the organization's costs.
"We're so appreciative of (the community)," Prager said. "Without the support of the community, we just could not exist."
The Warwood Lions Club spent five hours on Saturday, April 10, collecting donations from drivers. Club members lauded the generosity of not only the Warwood community, but residents from areas north like Weirton and Wellsburg.
Lions Club member Bernie Lombard said a young boy walking by the donation site came up to the group with a dollar bill to donate.
"I told him that his mom and dad should be very proud of him," Lombard said. "If a kid of that age can do it, anybody can do it."
Lions Club member Tom Stenger said that even during tough financial times, as the area has seen through the COVID-19 pandemic, so many people took the time to help as they could. Some people who drove through told them they didn't have cash then, but returned after trips to the store to donate.
"It doesn't get any better than that, does it?" Stenger said.
