Wheeling Resident Jailed on Meth Charges

By ALAN OLSON 2 min read

While patrolling an area rife with complaints of drug activity, Wheeling police apprehended a man allegedly in the process of selling methamphetamine on Wheeling Island.

Around noon on March 24, Wheeling police came across Harold Nice, 37 of Wheeling, walking north on South Penn Street, near a house which police say had received several complaints of drug activity. The criminal complaint also states that Nice, in particular, was allegedly involved in the distribution of "illegal contraband" in the area.

Police ran Nice's information through the National Crime Information Center, which returned that Nice was wanted out of Belmont County, prompting police to stop and arrest him. When being arrested, Nice allegedly told police that he had half an ounce of meth on his person, which police say they found in a bag concealed on him. In total, police say they found him allegedly possessing 16.7 grams of the drug.

During an interview with police, Nice allegedly said he was a middleman, both a meth user and a dealer.

Nice was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a felony, and jailed in lieu of $50,000 bond.

In an unrelated arrest earlier this week, police approached a car parked at a Wheeling hotel parking lot, also known for its drug activity, and approached the driver, who they said appeared visibly nervous. The driver identified himself as Keith Chambers, 30 of Benwood.

Police say they saw a clear plastic bag, with printing consistent with drug packaging, on the driver's side floorboards, prompting a search of the car. Several bags containing various substances were allegedly found; six pill bags, each containing roughly 1.2 grams of meth, a seventh containing 4.47 grams, several bags and a scale with white residue, and a phone.

Chambers was taken into custody and charged with possession with intent to deliver, and remains jailed in lieu of $10,000 bond.
