Pump Ordered for Fountain at The Highlands

The fountain at The Highlands isn't working, but it could be within the next month, according to Ohio County Administrator Randy Russell.

The fountain wasn't operational in 2020, and engineers have determined it is in need of a pump, he said. That part has been ordered.

"We will definitely have it up this season," Russell said. "We're hoping within the next 30 days."

The fountain, located in The Highlands Town Center in front of the Marquee Cinemas, was installed more than a decade ago by Roman Fountains. It was not turned on during 2020, when many stores and offices at The Highlands were closed due to COVID-19.

There were attempts to bring the fountain to life, but workers found there were plumbing problems with the fountain.

During the winter of 2019-2020, water had accumulated within the fountain's pond and got into its piping. The pipes froze, and this caused damage, he explained.

Representatives from Roman Fountains were contacted, but could not come last summer to examine the fountain due to COVID restrictions.

The damage to the fountain's pipes likely occurred during the winter of 2019-2020, and not this past winter, he said.
