The Marshall County Health Department announced three new COVID-19-related deaths in its Monday afternoon report, as the number of positive cases continues to rise throughout West Virginia.
The MCHD said a 70-year-old man, 76-year-old man and 70-year-old woman, were the latest in Marshall County to die from the virus. All three were hospitalized at the time of their deaths. The department also announced 15 new positive cases and nine new probable cases.
According to the Department of Health and Human Resources COVID-19 dashboard, there have been 2,814 positive cases, 1,126 probable cases and 81 deaths in the county since the pandemic began.
The Wheeling-Ohio County Health Department reported 145 new cases and one COVID-related death from Aug. 15 through this past Sunday. According to the DHHR, there have been 3,451 positive cases, 1,274 probable cases and 88 related deaths since the pandemic began.
Positive COVID cases throughout the state have passed the five-digit mark. Tuesday's DHHR dashboard had 10,980 cases around the state. There were only 882 active cases in West Virginia on July 9.
Marshall County was red, the highest-risk category, Tuesday on the DHHR's COVID alert map. Ohio County was orange, one step below red, while Hancock and Brooke counties were gold, one step below orange. Only one county, Pocahontas, was green on Tuesday's map.
