Update: Wheeling Police arrest Daniel Wines, charge him with attempted murder in 29th Street shooting

WHEELING — Wheeling police late Monday arrested a 21-year-old man and charged him with attempted murder in connection with a daylight shooting that took place Monday afternoon on 29th Street in South Wheeling.

Police had been searching for Daniel Isaac Eugene Wines, a 6-foot-2, 290-pound white man with brown hair and blue eyes.

According to Public Information Officer Philip Stahl of the Wheeling Police Department, units were called to the location at around 2:45 p.m. Monday after gunshots were reported around the parking lot area of Dugger’s Market at 195 29th St. Two vehicles were seen leaving the area.

“Officers were able to speak with the driver of one of the vehicles, who took the victim of the shooting to Wheeling Hospital,” Stahl said. “The victim suffered a gunshot wound and was expected to undergo surgery.”

Stahl was not sure how many gunshots the victim sustained. He remains hospitalized.

The second vehicle, a dark colored Chevy Cruze, was believed to be driven by Wines.

“A unique detail about the vehicle, according to witnesses, was that it has a taped front passenger window and possible front-end damage,” Stahl noted.

The vehicle was last seen traveling south toward Interstate 470.

If the public has any information, they are urged to call Wheeling Police at 304-234-3664.
