A Wheeling man now doesn't have to worry when he drives up to the gas pump -- at least for the next decade.
Andrew Koontz was one of two people Thursday to win free gas for the next 10 years as part of the state of West Virginia's COVID-19 vaccination sweepstakes, also known as "Do It For Babydog: Round 2." The sweepstakes' mascot is Gov. Jim Justice's English bulldog named Babydog.
Those West Virginia residents who have been vaccinated were able to register for the second round of sweepstakes drawings. This was the fifth of six weeks where winners were announced.
Prizes this round included two prizes of free gas for a decade, five full-ride college scholarships, a 2021 Corvette, a custom fishing boat, a $150,000 dream wedding, two premium ATVs, two zero-turn lawn mowers, five ski resort season passes and three season passes each to Marshall football or basketball and WVU football or basketball games.
Aside from Koontz, there was one more local winner. Mary Kay Bartolovich of Moundsville won a ski resort season pass.
