Moundsville Chamber Christmas Tree Auction Coming Thursday

MOUNDSVILLE -- The Marshall County Chamber of Commerce hosted a community night Tuesday evening, allowing locals a chance to see the Christmas trees, wreaths and mantles up for auction later this week.
Chamber Executive Director Scott Reager said the auction will feature 15 trees, four mantles and six Christmas wreaths. Funds raised Thursday will go to the Chamber, which forwards the proceeds to local charitable causes. This year, Reager said the chamber will donate to the Marshall County Caring Tree.
"We're collecting on their behalf, and we'll probably make a monetary donation as well," Reager said Tuesday.
Decorations from several organizations and businesses across the Ohio Valley are on display, with a variety of themes, from traditional and rustic to "Crashing into Christmas" -- which is a 7-foot-tall, upside-down tree, depicting Santa and his elves crashing down a chimney.
Reager said participation in this year's event was slightly above average, with slightly more mantles this year than is typical.
"We're a little bit better on the mantles. We have a waiting list, and we try to buy these trees at the end of the previous year," Reager said. "It's getting a little difficult, with the distribution of trees."
The Annual Tree Gala Auction Fundraiser will be from 5-9 p.m. Thursday at the Moundsville Center, inside the walls of the former W.Va. Penitentiary.
