Buckeye Local School District Superintendent Kim Leonard resigned during Tuesday’s board of education meeting.

Board president April Ogden said the resignation was effective immediately. According to a statement released by the board, “She (Leonard) will assist the board in the transition to an interim superintendent. The board would like to thank Kim for her service to the district and wishes her the best in the future.”

Scott Celestin, assistant superintendent, will act as interim superintendent until the board appointments a replacement.

“He’s been with us for many years. He has also been an interim superintendent for us in the past and he did quite well,” Ogden said.

Ogden said they will soon begin taking applications, but did not specify a date when the board will hire someone to fill the position.

Leonard, who was hired as the district superintendent in May 2017, could not be reached for comment.
