WHEELING -- It's out with the old and in with the new along the train route at Oglebay Park's Good Zoo.

The park will be saying goodbye to the current train that ferries patrons around the zoo and many of its animal exhibits, and welcoming a new trackless train this spring.

Interest in the train route's future was sparked when the park posted the current train for auction. The 1977 Chance C.P. Huntington train comes with ¾ of a mile of rail. The purchaser will be responsible for rail and debris removal and transport. The starting bid was $17,000.

According to a post on Oglebay Park's Facebook page, the park has decided to transition to a trackless train, which should offer several benefits that the current train doesn't right now.

"The new train will provide greater accessibility for all guests to enjoy the zoo and includes a narration system and provides larger seating to accommodate families," according to the post.

"The trackless train will also provide us the flexibility to operate in different locations, as well as provide a variety of opportunities to guests during special events."

The gas-powered Huntington train runs about 42 hours weekly between May and October, according to the auction site.

Bids on the 1977 Huntington train will be taken until 7:32 p.m. on Jan. 19. The auction can be found on govdeals.com by searching "Huntington train."
