Moundsville Looks Forward To Improvements In 2022

MOUNDSVILLE -- City leaders are looking forward to infrastructure improvements in the coming year.
The first council meeting of the year was a quiet one with a thin agenda, beginning with the swearing in of Judy Hunt and Sara Wood-Shaw as mayor and vice-mayor, respectively. Hunt began her term by extending her wish to her fellow council members that they work together for the good of the community.
"We may all come from different ships, but we are all on the same boat," Hunt said. "Each councilperson comes from a different background, life experience and brings different ideas, talents and skills to this table, to contribute to the success of the city. I believe we all share in one common dream: to make Moundsville better this year than the year before.
"Sometimes we will be faced with hard decisions to make progress happen. I believe the best is yet to come for 2022 and the citizens of Moundsville."
Looking ahead, Hunt said she was excited to see the city begin work on Park View Park, set to start in the spring, and on Riverfront Park, for which the city had applied for a matched grant to improve the facilities.
Improvements to Park View Park will be made with a $60,000 matched grant, which was already approved.
"I'm excited to see what we'll continue to do with park renovations at the riverfront and at Park View," she said.
"That's been a long time needed. ... We applied for the grant to update all the playground equipment, fencing, a dog park, different things like that."
City Manager Rick Healy said the city would begin work on Park View Park -- which includes new playground equipment, resurfacing, new pickleball courts, new trash cans and picnic tables, and an innovative interactive mural for chalk art -- as soon as weather permits in the spring.
"That's going to be happening as soon as the weather breaks, we'll be over there. ... As soon as it gets good enough to dig, we'll be out there working on that," Healy said.
