The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra has postponed its January events due to the recent increase in COVID-19 infections locally.

The Symphony was scheduled to perform its opening night "Baroque and Beyond" concert on Jan. 21 at the Capitol Theatre. Pre- and post-concert events that had been planned for Jan. 21 are also postponed along with all other WSO events scheduled for January including the first installment of WSO on the Go Yoga, which was to be held on Saturday.

The symphony plans to proceed with February events as scheduled and is working to reschedule the January concert and Yoga event for June.

"We did not think we would be forced to make this type of decision again," WSO Executive Director Bryan Braunlich said. "We are disappointed that our concert and celebration will have to be postponed, but we want to have a celebration that people can safely and comfortably attend. With the steep increase in cases and the timing of this concert, it makes sense for us to pause performances for the month of January."

Braunlich indicated that the WSO plans to move forward with events scheduled for February including the second installment of the SoundBites Concert Series, "Love Notes," which is set for Feb. 13 at Glessner Ballroom and the Capitol Concert Series performance of "Disney in Concert" scheduled for Feb. 18 at the Capitol Theatre.

Tickets for the January concert will be honored for the rescheduled date. Ticketholders who have questions can contact the WSO Box Office at 304-232-6191.

The WSO on the Go Yoga series will begin with the February installment onFeb. 12 at 9 a.m. at the Scottish Rite Cathedral Ballroom featuring instructor Dr. Judy Romano and Tom Godfrey, classical guitar. The session with Lindsay Schooler and flutist Barbara O'Brien will be rescheduled for June 11.
