U.S. Rep. David McKinley, R-W.Va., continues receiving endorsements for the state's new 2nd District seat in Washington D.C. The latest came Thursday, when the Gas and Oil Association of West Virginia threw its support behind him.

"We're proud to support Rep. McKinley, a steadfast supporter of the oil and natural gas industry since first entering office in 2011," GO-WV Executive Director Charlie Burd said, "because he's a businessman - not a politician - and understands the complexity of the industry and its dedication to continuous improvement from a technological, operational, and environmental perspective."

"A true and long-time friend, Rep. McKinley sees value in using domestic energy to grow our state and provide jobs for hard-working West Virginians," Burd continued. "We look forward to having David return to Washington and continue advocating for the Mountain State."

McKinley faces fellow West Virginia Rep. Alex Mooney in the Republican primary. West Virginia's population loss led to the state losing a seat in the U.S. House, cutting the total from three to two.

Redistricting put the two sitting congressmen in the new 2nd District, which encompasses the northern part of the state and the Eastern Panhandle.

GO-WV's endorsement follows the support of other pro-business groups, including the West Virginia Business & Industry Council, the West Virginia Manufacturers Association and the West Virginia Chamber.

"A strong America depends on West Virginia energy. Our state has played a leading role in helping America become not only energy independent but a net exporter of energy across the world," Congressman McKinley stated in response to this endorsement.

"West Virginia has a proud tradition of helping to fuel America's economic might. I will continue to stand up for the hard-working men and women of West Virginia's oil and natural gas industry and fight against the Biden Administration's assault on American energy," McKinley continued.

"It is an honor to receive the endorsement of the Gas and Oil Association of West Virginia."
