A sale is pending on the Kaufman’s building, shown here on Thursday, to an out-of-town man who plans to redevelop it, according to Kennen & Kennen Realtors.

The old Kaufman’s store building is under a new contract to be sold again.

The structure is listed for sale with Kennen & Kennen Realtors with an asking price of $150,000.

Realtor Bob Kennen, who is the seller’s agent, said Thursday the building is under contract with an out-of-town buyer who plans to redevelop it.

Before its closure in 2010 the building was last known for being one of the Ohio Valley’s go-to places to shop for formal wear for women, selling bridal gowns, prom dresses and more. It had been in business for 80 years before closing.

In 2018, the building, located at 1032 Main St., was purchased by the Vineyard Church for $115,000. The church planned to use it as a place for its youth and possibly residential space. That plan, however, did not come to fruition.

In February, Jeffrey Morris of Roxby Development said he was planning to purchase the building. But Kennen said Morris’ contract expired.

“He didn’t pull the trigger,” he said of Morris.

The new buyer’s agent is Kennen & Kennen realtor Ron Witt. Witt said the buyer does not want to comment on his plans until the sale is completed.

Besides the thousands of dresses it sold over the years, the Kaufman’s building is also known for its distinctive blue facade. The upper facade is covered with blue metal panels, while the columns on the bottom half are covered in blue square tiles.

The structure was built about 1900 and offers about 6,000 square feet of space.

Starting at $2.99/week.
