A 1.7-mile stretch of W.Va. 2 in south-central Marshall County is on the list of paving projects for which the West Virginia Division of Highways accepted bids last week.
W.Va. 2 between Woodland Road and Cresap Road - roughly from where Fish Creek meets the Ohio River to the Mitchell Power Plant - was one of 13 highway paving projects, and of 24 total projects, included in a bid letting conducted by the West Virginia Division of Highways on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. The WVDOH is reviewing the bids and hopes to award contracts for these projects soon.
Marshall County Administrator Betsy Frohnapfel said she was pleased to see the project going out to bid, as it would be a boon for the residents and workers in the area once finished.
"Any time the Division of Highways paves a section of W.Va. 2, it's a plus for our residents who drive the road, and the industries situated in the southern part of the county," Frohnapfel said Monday.
The letter addressed bids for paving work in numerous counties across the state, including resurfacing a portion of Washington Street, East in Charleston and paving Interstate 77 near Airport Road in Beckley.
"These paving projects are part of a dedicated resurfacing effort all over the state of West Virginia this construction season," said Joe Pack, P.E., WVDOH Chief of District Operations. "Gov. Jim Justice's Roads to Prosperity program has allowed the Division of Highways to channel funding into much needed maintenance projects, including paving our roads."
