Wheeling Man Charged With Burglary After Alleged Drunken Intrusion

By ALAN OLSON 2 min read

A Wheeling man faces felony charges after allegedly worming his way into a locked house to harass a woman.

On April 13, Wheeling police conducted an interview with a woman who said that John Abrigg, 35 of Wheeling, had woken her up in the middle of the night the week prior. The woman said Sanger had entered her bedroom while she was asleep, put his hands on her, and pushed down, which she said did not scare or hurt her, but which caused her to suspect Abrigg was drunk.

According to police, Abrigg allegedly said he was able to get into the locked residence by manipulating the door a certain way.

The woman said Abrigg took her phone and went downstairs to look through it, causing a "scuffle." The woman's daughter, who was also home, came downstairs and threatened to call the police, which allegedly caused Abrigg to try to take her phone too.

Abrigg was apparently arrested without incident on April 13, where court records indicate he appeared in the magistrate court's waiting area, where he was placed under arrest from his active warrants for third offense domestic assault and burglary. He remains lodged at the Northern Regional Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash-only bond.

In an unrelated arrest, Timothy Sanger, 48 of Wheeling, was arrested over the weekend. While Wheeling police were investigating a fraud case, Sanger was asked to come and speak to police, which police say he agreed to. Sanger was, at that time, paroled out on unrelated charges and tracked with a GPS monitor.

The following morning, Sanger allegedly cut his GPS monitor and was not answering his phone. Police say he was unable to be found at his residence on Lane H in Wheeling. His GPS monitor, valued at $2,100, was allegedly missing, though police say they did find a cell phone at the residence.

Sanger was subsequently found and apprehended on charges of grand larceny and escaping the custody of the commissioner of corrections. He is being held without bond at the Northern Regional Jail.
