‘Fairy’ Good Time Planned At Toy And Train Museum

WHEELING -- A "fairy" fun event is coming to the Kruger Street Toy & Train Museum on Saturday.
Children are invited to learn about Fairy Gardens starting at 7 p.m. at the museum in Elm Grove. Children will receive their own fairy wings and tutus, learn about fairy legends from different countries and pick what kind of fairy they would like to be.
There will also be photo opportunities, crafts, board games and more. The event is geared toward children ages 3-9, but all "fairy enthusiasts" are welcome, according to the museum.
Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling 304-242-8133. People can also register in person at the museum at 144 Kruger St.
The cost is $20 for the first child and $15 for each additional child. Adults who are accompanying a child or children enter free.
Museum employee Sheila Kinser said this is the second year for the event. Last year the museum anticipated about 34 people attending, but about 80 ended up showing up.
"Last year we had some boys. We got them chest plates so they are the guardians of the fairies. They all got to do everything," Kinser said.
Museum Manager Lynn Maguire said this year the group will be making magic wands. They will get to choose which fairy they are and their colors. The children will also be read a fairy-themed book. Photos will be taken of them with a fairy background and, with parents' permission, sparkly glitter will be put in their hair.
They will also play a game that involves passing around a wrapped prize. When the music stops that person tears off a layer of tissue paper. Whoever takes off the last layer gets to keep the prize.
The children will also get to make their own fairy garden pot. This activity will be led by a Wheeling Park High School teacher who will show them how to put soil in it and how to take care of it.
Maquire said last year's event was a success.
"They have a good time," she said of the kids.
