WHEELING -- West Virginians for Energy Freedom will hold an event Thursday that will help residents with solutions to skyrocketing energy rates.
The event will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Ohio County Public Library. Energy experts will discuss cost-effective options for becoming more efficient or going solar.
Some new government programs have made it easier than ever. Experts will walk attendees through all of the opportunities for individuals and also how local governments can save taxpayers money through reducing utility expenses.
The event is scheduled to take place a day after Appalachian Power and Wheeling Power ask the West Virginia Public Service Commission, during a hearing scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the City-County Building in Wheeling, for a 12% rate hike for customers that will generate $297 million for the company.
The average electric bill would increase by $18 with the increase. The average Appalachian Power bill is now at more than $150 per month.
