Wheeling Police Arrest Two on Drug Charges

By ALAN OLSON 2 min read

More than $27,000 worth of drugs was allegedly seized from two men after an arrest at the Super 8 Hotel in Wheeling last week.

On June 9, Wheeling police executed a search warrant at a room of the hotel, where two men had allegedly been seen undertaking what police say appeared to be drug deals.

Just before 4 p.m., Geiontay Hoskins, 24, and Rondae Smith, 27, both of Columbus, were allegedly seen leaving the building to head into town.

Around 4:30 p.m., police searched the room, allegedly finding several drugs and related items. The rental agreement for the room listed both Hoskins and Smith as occupants, police say.

Police say they found 59.28 grams of suspected heroin and fentanyl, 154.97 grams of a substance which tested positive for methamphetamine, and .11 grams of a white substance, which was not tested. Police say the heroin and fentanyl would have a street price of $11,800, and that the meth was valued at $15,400. Police also say they found a black digital scale.

Hoskins and Smith were stopped by West Virginia State Police and were subsequently arrested. At the time of their arrest, both men reportedly had Super 8 hotel keys, and Smith was allegedly carrying a large, but unspecified, amount of cash.

Both men were arrested Thursday and were charged with manufacture of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a felony.

Both remain lodged at the Northern Regional Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bond. Their preliminary hearings had not been set as of Monday morning.
