A new behavioral health facility recently opened in Wheeling's Elm Grove neighborhood, eager to help members of the community with their mental health needs.
The Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce held a ceremonial ribbon cutting for Enlighten Health Care on Monday afternoon. Enlighten will offer psychiatric health care to those in need both in person and via telehealth.
Some counseling is involved, said Enlighten CEO Jeremy Schreiber, but the practice's main focus is medication management.
"The combination of counseling and medication provides a synergistic benefit to the patient for most psychiatric illnesses," he said. "So it's a combination of counseling and medication that really give patients their biggest benefit."
Patients will be able to contact enlighten themselves, Schreiber said, and healthcare providers and counselors can refer patients to Enlighten.
"There are some disorders that primary care may not be as comfortable treating, some of the more significant illnesses that they haven't been trained to treat," Schreiber said. "Those patients would be able to be referred to behavioral health facilities in the area such as this one."
Schreiber added that the facility's location, in the Elm Terrace Shopping Center, is a strategic one, as it sits on the main public transportation route.
"Some patients don't have reliable transportation," Schreiber said, "and this practice is along the bus route for those patients as well."
