Dozens of businesses in Marshall County are among the first to receive COVID relief funds disbursed through the county this week, made available through the county's online portal which launched earlier this year.
The Marshall County Commission launched its online portal June 1, which allowed small entities to apply for COVID relief funds made available through the American Rescue Plan. Businesses and nonprofits that saw a reduction in revenue of 20% or greater, who employed 50 people or fewer, were eligible to apply through the program.
Marshall County Administrator Betsy Frohnapfel said that the first month of the portal's operation, which went live on June 1, saw $461,824 in grant funding awarded to 30 businesses. Forty-five businesses had applied, and 11 are still having their data processed. Four were found to not be eligible.
"This is ARPA money that the county received. The commission set up grants that people were able to apply for," Frohnapfel said. "… We will continue to work with the remainder of the June applicants. The July applicants are being reviewed, and will be awarded in September."
Grants will be accepted through the county through Sept. 30, and may cover up to $20,000. Reduction in revenue is measured by comparing the second and third quarters of fiscal year 2019 and 2020, using guidelines set by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
The application can be accessed at https://westvirginia.viewpointcloud.com/categories/1097. A link to the application can also be found on the Marshall County Commission's web page, https://www.marshallcountywv.org/services/covid-19-information.
Paper copies of the application can be obtained through the county commission, which can be reached at 304-845-0482.
