Applications to be the next president of West Liberty University will be accepted through Nov. 1, and the university's board of directors announced Tuesday the group who will choose that person.

WLU officials met Tuesday afternoon to discuss the selection process. Current WLU President W. Franklin Evans' tenure will end Dec. 31, as the BOG recently voted not to renew his contract.

Created in accordance with the WLU Board of Governors Presidential Search and Selection policy, the committee makeup and process also follows the guidelines set by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission.

The group includes WLU Board of Governors members: Chairman Rich Lucas, Vice-chair Jack Adams, Michael J. Baker, Arlene Brantley, Richard Carter, Thomas Cervone, board secretary Dr. Jamie Evick, WLU staff member Ryan Glanville, student government president Sydney Burkle, David H. McKinley, faculty member Jason Metz and Stephanie Shaw.

Other members selected include WLU Foundation Chairman John Dolan and Vice Chairman Dr. Daniel Joseph (alumnus), along with Interim Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Katie Cooper.

Cervone was then elected as chairman and McKinley was elected as vice-chairman of the Presidential Search committee by the Board of Governors. Both votes were unanimous.

Also serving as a non-voting, ex-officio member will be Sarah Tucker, chancellor of the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. The WVHEPC is expected to vote and approve the new president's contract once a selection is made.

The date of the search committee's first meeting was not announced but will be decided soon. The BOG also discussed the possibility of using a professional search firm.
