WHEELING – The Wheeling Police Department arrested a man on Thursday who is wanted in connection with an attempted homicide case in York, Pennsylvania.
According to WPD, police were executing a search warrant on an unrelated matter in the 1300 block of McColloch St. on Thursday morning. After making entry, officers located 39-year-old Kenneth Ray of York, Pennsylvania, inside. Ray was taken into police custody without incident and transported to the Northern Regional Jail pending an extradition hearing.
According to York City Police, Ray is wanted on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Commander Andy Baez said Ray was wanted in connection with an altercation outside a bar last year. Charges were filed last year, but Ray had not been arraigned in the intervening time, and as of Friday, the case was listed as inactive while awaiting his preliminary hearing.
According to published reports, Ray allegedly ambushed three men outside the bar, shooting one, which escalated into a shootout on the streets of York City. Ray allegedly shot and injured James Naylor when Naylor left the M&M Lounge after midnight on Sept. 29, 2021. Ray had previously been convicted of felony burglary and was prohibited from owning a firearm, according to local media.
Two other men, Eric Gibbs and Tyrone Lozano, were also allegedly involved in the shootout, from which police were said to have collected 40 spent shell casings. Charges against them were filed locally in York.
In Wheeling, a second person, Rashun Rafael Suncar, 36, of Wheeling, was also arrested on two outstanding federal drug trafficking charges. He also was taken to the Northern Regional Jail.
