WHEELING – Corpus Christi School will host its second Little Entrepreneurs Craft Fair on Sunday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The event will take place in the Corpus Christi Parish Center at 1508 Warwood Avenue in Wheeling.
A variety of handmade items will be for sale, made by students ages 5-14.
Corpus Christi School's principal Shannon Wall said the event gives those children an early taste of entrepreneurship.
"The point of the craft fair is for children who are between the ages of 5 through 14 to create their own crafts at home and then they learn what it is like to run a business for a couple of hours," Wall said. "They are in charge of everything. They have to provide all of their stuff, create everything, set up their tables, and then they decide how much they want to sell everything."
The first craft fair came in 2019, but went on a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There will be 15 different tables at the craft fair and some of the tables will have kids who worked together to make their crafts. A wide variety of gifts will be available, including handmade Christmas ornaments, jewelry, homemade chocolates and cookies and homemade dog treats.
The craft fair was open to any children in Wheeling who met the age requirements that wanted to participate. Most of the children participating are students from the Corpus Christi School, though four children who live in Warwood are also participating.
"I am selling handmade bowls and clocks that are made out of old records at the craft fair this year," eighth grader Addison Wall said." I was inspired to make them because I have seen a lot of things like it on Etsy."
Fifth grader said she and her older brother Eli will sell handmade Christmas ornaments. Sarah Czapp said, "We made the ornaments out of printed paper, wooden ornaments, ribbons, and bows," she said. "We glued all of the things together in order to make the ornaments."
Fourth grader Destiny Angelucci said her gifts will have a Harry Potter theme.
"The items include necklaces, socks, little perler bead things, magnets, and keychains," she said.
Eighth grader Myles Mills will offer homemade dog treats.
"My family has dogs so originally that's how I started making them," she said. "I also have two pet dogs as well."
Shannon Wall said the event is not just fun, but important for the kids.
"The craft fair is not only about showing support for our school but it is also about helping the youth in our area do something," Wall said.
