Students seeking financial help to attend college in the form of scholarships may want to check out the more than 70 different funds administered by the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley.
The foundation is now taking applications for the 2023 funds; there is a Feb. 22 deadline to apply for most of the scholarships.
Visit www.cfov.org and click on the scholarships tab.
"Last year, CFOV scholarship funds provided over $440,000 in financial support to over 100 students pursuing higher education of all types," according to the foundation. "Community Foundation scholarships are as unique as the establishing donor. Scholarships offered through CFOV represent memorials for loved ones, an affinity for a particular major, attendance at a particular school/university, intended career path, financial need and even being a first-generation college student."
After the deadlines to apply for the various scholarships have passed, the applications will be reviewed and students will be informed in May if they received an award.
Students do not receive a check directly. The money is disbursed to the college where one has been accepted to and will be attending.
The foundation also encourages students to talk with their school's guidance counselor about scholarship opportunities as well.
