Keep Wheeling Warm Campaign Kicks Off
Donations are being sought for a new free store at Youth Services System’s headquarters in East Wheeling.
Paree Insurance Centers has teamed up with West Liberty University, Panhandle Cleaning & Restoration and Walmart at The Highlands to collect coats, gloves and other items to help keep people in the community warm this winter.
The Keep Wheeling Warm campaign kicks off Friday with a donation drive at Walmart from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A Panhandle truck will be parked at the store, ready to be filled with donations.
Then on Saturday, the campaign will continue during an “awareness game” at 2 p.m. at WLU during the WLU women’s basketball team’s game versus Glenville State University. The men’s game follows. Those who bring a donation will receive a free T-shirt; supplies are limited.
“Tom Paree, the owner of Paree Insurance Centers, is always ready to jump in and help his community,” said Lisa Bucon of Paree Insurance.
Those who cannot make the events can drop off donations at Paree Insurance at 306 Kruger St. Wheeling, 1213 Lafayette Ave, Moundsville, or 52327 National Road East, St. Clairsville, through Jan. 6.
“We’re beyond excited to continue our partnership with YSS, Panhandle, and Paree Insurance Centers as we work to impact our community through the Keep Wheeling Warm Campaign,” said WLU women’s basketball coach Kyle Cooper. “Our West Liberty women’s basketball family is about so much more than just basketball and this initiative is a great example of what it means to give back and serve the community that we’re so lucky to have the support of here on the Hilltop.”
The YSS’ Sophie Moses Free Store is open to the public; call YSS at 304-233-9627 to make a shopping appointment or to make a donation. In addition to coats and gloves, people can also donate warm clothing items, shoes, hygiene items, hand warmers and scarves.
