Karen Kettler, left, dean of the College of Sciences at West Liberty University, and Katie Cooper, Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management, provide an update on the presidential search at WLU during a State of the University address Thursday.

Members of the community will have a chance today to offer their views in the search for a new president at West Liberty University.

The university's presidential search committee and AGB Search, the firm hired by the committee to assist in the search, have been holding listening sessions at WLU since Tuesday. At 5 p.m. today at the university's Boyle Conference Center in the Academic, Sports and Recreation Complex, the community, campus, WLU alumni and others are invited to a listening session.

The sessions allow AGB and the committee to talk to important members of the WLU community to inform and finalize the group's leadership profile. That profile will help the committee outline the qualifications for the position, make sure the collective expectations of the stakeholders are represented and allow AGB to recruit a strong group of candidates.

AGB has been meeting with trustees, campus administrators, faculty and staff members, students, alumni and community members, as appropriate. This inclusive process reveals the attractions and challenges of the position, as well as the characteristics and experience the successful candidate must possess.

The formal search itself will launch the week of Feb. 6 and the application deadline will be March 17. West Liberty University is seeking its 38th President after the Board of Governors declined to renew former President W. Franklin Evans' contract, which expired on Dec. 31. Cathy Monteroso currently serves as interim president.
