MOUNDSVILLE - The Four Seasons Pool in Moundsville has reopened following a recent repainting of the facility conducted during the past few weeks.
During a recent Moundsville City Council meeting, City Manager Rick Healy described the results of the work as "phenomenal."
The indoor pool's water was drained to allow workers to clean it and repaint the surface, which includes a white base and dark lane lines for the competitive swim meets held there.
Also, drains were installed in the shower rooms, additional walls were painted, some carpeting was replaced with new carpet tiles and some plumbing work was conducted.
Prisoners from the Northern Regional Jail helped with the pool painting project.
Work to improve the concession stand area is also underway.
The pool reopened for business on Thursday. While it is an indoor pool, it has sliding doors that open to the outside. The facility likely will receive even more use this summer as the city of McMechen's outdoor swimming pool is not reopening this summer.
Officials in that city said damage to the pool, plus lower attendance numbers led to the decision. However, if McMechen does find funding to make repairs they will revisit reopening the pool in the future.
Grand Vue Park in Moundsville is still in the process of building its new, larger swimming pool, but it is anticipated to reopen this summer.
The Grand Vue Park pool will have more water features that teens are expected to enjoy, such as a diving board, a rock climbing wall, a 21-foot tall dual slide tower and a basketball hoop. It will also have a zero-entry or beach-like entry into the water.
