MOUNDSVILLE – When she learned the Marshall County History Museum needed a new computer and software, county native Bridget Carver quickly stepped in to help.
Now residing in Frederick, Maryland, Carver donated $1,000 to the museum through the Carver Foundation to purchase a new laptop and software. Her father, Tom Conner, presented the funds to museum board members this week.
“Now residing in Fredrick, Maryland, Carver often seeks to keep in touch with her West Virginia roots,” Brian Richmond, a member of the Marshall County Historical Society Board of Directors, said. “In doing so, she found that the Marshall County History Museum fit the mold that the foundation was looking for, due to its dedication to educating the community about local history.”
Richmond said the foundation was started by Bridget Carver and her husband Guy Carver in 2021. The foundation’s mission is to support non-profit agencies that benefit the arts, nature, youth, animals and humanitarian efforts.
Richmond said the museum, which has been operated by the Marshall County Historical Society since 1996, is “dedicated to tell the story of Marshall County’s rich history, along with that of the Upper Ohio Valley, through public events, education lectures, and exhibits featuring artifacts, photographs, documents, memorabilia, from the county’s past.” It is located at 301 13th St. in Moundsville.
It also offers an “extensive reference collection of public records” and genealogical information used by the public for research.
“We enjoy finding opportunities to provide a small contribution that will make a big difference,” Carver said.
The donation was recently presented to Marshall County Historical Society Board of Directors Evan Lightner and Richmond by Carver Foundation representative and Moundsville resident Tom Conner, who is the father of Bridget Carver.
“The Marshall County Historical Society would like to sincerely thank the Carver Foundation for their generous donation toward this project,” Richmond said.
For those who would like to visit the museum, it is open year-round on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and also on Mondays and Saturdays from April 1-Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is no admission fee.
