Antique Show Is a Hit in Return to Oglebay

Antique lovers visited Oglebay Park's Pine Room on Sunday to see some of the finest antique furniture, glassware, jewelry, paintings and much more during Oglebay Institute’s 66th annual Antiques Show & Sale.
This is the first year the show has been held in about three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a waterline break last year at the glass museum.
Christin Byrum, director of the Museums of Oglebay Institute, described the success of this year's show and sale as "tremendous." She estimated about 1,000 people visited the show during the three-day weekend.
"We have had an incredible turnout and we have 43 dealers from 10 states," she said. "We've had a really great weekend. The three-year hiatus we had, people were really looking forward to the show coming back, and they've really turned out for us."
Byrum said many of the dealers have been doing the show for several years and have repeat customers at Oglebay.
"They get to know people here and they know their interests," she said. "So in between shows they do find stock for their customers here in Wheeling."
Paula McClure, co-chair of the event, said the show's hiatus did give organizers a chance to revitalize it.
"We're looking forward to it being back in the lodge next year," she added.
Stella Boldrick, co-chair of the event, said she was excited to have the show restart.
"People have been missing it. We've been missing it and the dealers have been missing it," she said.
Boldrick said that, when she gets a chance to shop during the event, she looks for eclectic items such as folk art and other one-of-a-kind purchases.
McClure said she enjoys shopping for traditional items, pieces of jewelry and glassware during the show.
"A lot of us have bought artwork this year, paintings. It just depends," she noted.
Byrum said this year they expanded the show to include mid-century modern pieces along with art deco and art nouveau items.
"We did have some exclusively mid-century modern dealers with us this year, and the response has been phenomenal," Byrum said.
Byrum added they are grateful for the dealers, shoppers and patrons who came back this year.
The 2024 Oglebay Institute Antiques Show & Sale is slated to be held April 5-7 at Wilson Lodge.
