Grand Vue Park will celebrate a native West Virginia vegetable that many in the Mountain State love when it hosts the Marshall County Ramp Dinner and Dance starting at 4 p.m. May 6 at the park's big red barn.
Ramps are known as wild leeks, which are native to West Virginia. They belong to the lily family and are close relatives of the onion and garlic.
Southpaw Eatz will provide ramp-themed food during the event. Food will be first come, first served, but guests can pre-order food at southpawwv.com. Go to "More" on the top menu and click on "Orders" on the drop-down menu. There guests and pre-order food like ramp meatloaf and hot dogs with ramp relish.
Side dishes also will be available including cowboy beans with ramps, cornbread and red potatoes and ramps.
Kids can enjoy a free pinwheel craft, giant Jenga and other yard games. The dinner also will include a ramp-eating contest with prizes for the top 3 finishers, including $100 to the first-place winner. There is limited registration for the contest, so registration is suggested as soon as possible.
