This year's National Library Week is April 23-29, and the Marshall County Public Libraries are celebrating with several special activities. The theme, established by the American Library Association, is "There's More to the Story."
The Marshall County Commissioners will sign a proclamation to announce the county's observance of National Library Week and to call attention to the vital role libraries play in our communities.
An extra special event will be a dedication on Saturday, when the Cameron Public Library will be celebrating its new building and location with guest speakers, food and library tours. This event is open to the public and starts at 11 a.m. at 1 Fitzgerald Ave. in Cameron.
Storytimes for preschoolers and toddlers are among the most popular activities regularly offered by the libraries. These sessions typically include a craft or other activity. Registering in advance and re-confirming dates and times is encouraged.
At the Moundsville Library, the story time is on Thursdays at 11 a.m. Storytime at the Cameron Library typically occurs every other Monday at 1 p.m., but the Marshall County Family Resource Network will be a special guest presenter during National Library Week.Contact the Cameron Library for more details.
Look for the Benwood-McMechen Library to be starting story times later this spring. Call the library for details. The Benwood-McMechen and Moundsville libraries also offer after-school activities for students.
The Moundsville Library offers two monthly adult book clubs, one on a Monday evening at 6 p.m. and another on a Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. Contact the library to find out exact dates and selected titles.
The following special events are scheduled around National Library Week for the Moundsville Public Library:
– Monday, April 24 - History Alive! Charles Schultz: The cartoonist best known for creating the beloved Peanuts comic strip, featuring Charlie Brown and Snoopy and the gang will be portrayed by James Froemel, providing a glimpse at Schulz' life. he audience will have the opportunity to ask questions of the character during this program aimed at adult and older students. The program starts at 6 p.m.
– Tuesday, April 25 - "The Fabelmans," historical drama, rated PG-13, film showing at 6 p.m.
– Thursday, April 27 - Pittsburgh Puppet Works: A Bee C's Dee Fun, silly, musical puppet show inspiring kids to catch the reading bug, aimed at children ages 3-8, begins at 5:30 p.m.
– Wednesday, May 3 -- storytelling with Judy Tarowsky and Rich Knoblich at Grand Vue Park, a "Blazing Stories" family fun outdoor event at Shelter 1, presented by the library at 7 p.m.
All events are free and open to the public.
The Moundsville Library is located at 700 Fifth St., at the corner of Fifth Street and Tomlinson Avenue, in Moundsville.

The Marshall County Libraries will also be accepting donations for their next big Book Sale coming up May 4-5 and May 8 with the help of the Moundsville Woman's Club.
