Ohio County Virtual Lions Club To Host First Steak Fry

WHEELING - The Ohio County Virtual Lions Club is slated to hold its inaugural steak fry from 6-10 p.m. April 29 at the Warwood Vets Club.
Kris Quinn, president of the Ohio County Virtual Lions Club, said the club, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic, is now 41 members strong.
Their first steak fry, which costs $30 per ticket, will be a little different than a typical one - the food will be prepared by Outback Steakhouse cooks instead of the attendees. People are still asked to bring their own place settings. The menu will include a choice of steak or chicken with a baked potato, salad, bread, water, dessert and two drink tickets.

Quinn said the steak fry proceeds would benefit the club's service programs.
"Our club is devoted to the children of Ohio County. We have many talents which helps to make our club successful," Quinn said. "We like to ask potential members what their passion is, and we find a way to make it part of our club. Everyone brings something different to the table.
"We pride ourselves in our cafeteria-style service," Quinn added. "So, just like you’d choose what you like to have at Mehlman's in the line, you can pick and choose what projects, activities, or fundraisers you participate in. There is something for everyone."
Some of the club's past projects have included: Flags for Heroes; blanket tying for children with cancer; Family Fun Day at Wheeling's public pools; collection of used eyeglasses or sunglasses; collection of used hearing aids; Backpack Food Program; Trex Bench Program, where 500 pounds of plastic was collected and sent to Trex, which then turned the plastic into benches placed around Wheeling; After the Disaster Kits for first responders; Lions Hugs program, which are Lion hand puppets to give to children in traumatic situations, such as children's court; Little Lending Library Program; and Egg My Yard for Easter.
"One project that is probably a favorite for a lot of us is the blanket tying for the kids with cancer," Quinn noted.
The club is always looking for new members. One of its benefits is that one can attend meetings without being there in person, Quinn said.
"We find it is easier to get the planning done by having these virtual meetings because all the planning is done before we even get to the event or project," she said. "This also gives a benefit to choosing what you are able to help with on your schedule. We rely on Zoom calls, text, emails, Remind app and Spond app to communicate to our members."

During the steak fry, there will also be 50-50 raffles, chance auction baskets, tip boards and more. The club is looking for donations of items for raffles.
