Marshall County Board of Education Recognizes 11 Retiring Employees

The Marshall County Board of Education honored 11 retiring employees during its regular meeting on Tuesday.
The group, which consisted of teachers, bus drivers, cooks, aides and more, have a combined 258 years of experience.
Each was given a special certificate of recognition by board members and enjoyed a brief reception with refreshments and cupcakes.
"It's a special evening. We get to honor, thank and express our sincere appreciation to our retiring employees who have dedicated so many years of their life to our students," said board President John Miller.
"We wish you the very best as you begin that endeavor called retirement. Some have described that as the best job they've ever had."
The retiring educators include bus driver Sharlene Lucey, speech pathologist Kimberly Yurisko, plumber George Weaver, aide Tamara Lemley, teacher Theodore Zervos, aide Anna Myers, teacher Kari Clark, bus driver Renee Hart, accounts payable worker Tammy Fahnestock, cook Sandra Kotson and bus driver Michael Reilly.
During the reception Hart and Reilly said both started their bus driving positions in 2006 and prior to that served as substitutes. Both said they enjoyed their jobs, adding it takes a lot of patience to be a bus driver.
"We have a lot of little ones. Patience is the main thing," Reilly said.
Hart said she will have plenty to do post-retirement as she and her husband run a business. She also has 11 grandchildren and five children. They plan to travel, too.
Reilly said his wife is close to retirement so they plan to do some traveling together. A daughter in New York also has an upcoming wedding, he added.
"There's plenty to keep me busy," he said.
Both noted they were looking forward to learning how to sleep in again. Hart said she typically gets up before 5 a.m. each day when working.
"I love kids. That's why I was a bus driver," she said.
