Moundsville Walmart Celebrates Multi-Million-Dollar Renovation

MOUNDSVILLE - The Moundsville Walmart celebrated the completion of its multimillion-dollar remodeling project with music, check presentations, the firing of confetti cannons and more.
The store's renovations include new displays, a new vision center, new larger signage, remodeled restrooms and a new Dollar Shop among other additions.
Store Manager Kara Garrett said employees and customers are excited and glad the project is completed after several months of work. The store remained open during the job, which resulted in some areas being rearranged or moved at times.
Now that it is done there are lots of new things to see, she said.
"We also have vignettes that are floor displays that show all kinds of merchandise a customer can buy in-store or online," Garrett said.
Garrett said this is the first major renovation of the store since it opened about 17 years ago in 2006.
"The associates, they love it. The customers - I know everything has been moving on them a lot, but now is where it's at and where it's going to stay, finally," she said.
Along with the employees, managers and people shopping, several dignitaries attended the event including Moundsville City Manager Rick Healy, Marshall County Commission President Mike Ferro, Marshall County Chamber of Commerce President Scott Reager, Moundsville Police Department Chief Tom Mitchell, City of Moundsville Fire Department Chief Gary Brandon and the Moundsville Veteran Honor Guard.
As part of the celebration the store's team lead, Andrea Keller, and Garrett presented donation checks to a few groups. The city of Moundsville received $1,500; the Moundsville Police Department received $1,500; the City of Moundsville Fire Department received $1,500; and the Moundsville Veteran Honor Guard received $2,500.
Several of the store's longtime associates - some of whom have worked there from the beginning - were also recognized. Those recognized included Walter Yates, Tina VanScyoc, Beth James, Steve Mobley, Eileen Smith, Katherine Wheaton, Christina Fitzsimmons, Ward and Lori Garrison, Scottie Bodart, Pat Hayes, Mike Hess, Mike Arrick, Joe Muldrew, Amy Underwood, Kathy Potts, Kristin Lusk, Bev Mozingo, Sue Chrislip, Rhonda Tennant, Bridget Kotson, Terrin Nething, Todd McHeskey, Alan McGlumphy, Harold Moore, Linda Brady, Dawnetta Wayson, Sara Leasure, Peggy Parker, Penny Crow, Petra Dorsey, Tammie Wade, Jim Martin, Angie Brown, Lisa Minor, Judy Weese and Chris Zimmerman.
All of the store's employees were thanked for their hard work and service.
"Our associates love our customers. I would like the more people in the community to come see our new updated store," Garrett said. "I hope the customers are as excited about all the new updates as much as we are."
Garrett contributed to the celebration by singing the Star Spangled Banner. The Moundsville Veteran Guard conducted a flag-folding ceremony.
Ferro said on behalf of the county commission he was happy to see the improvements Walmart made to the Moundsville store.
"They've been a real contributor to the tax base in Marshall County, and they serve the people very well," Ferro said.
Healy said the city of Moundsville is also pleased with the renovation project.
"This recent remodel and repair is a big plus for the citizens," Healy said. "Walmart has become a good partner with the city over the years they have been here in our city. We're glad to have them."
Reager described the project as "fantastic."
"I think the community will really be excited to see the new store and the new layout," Reager said. "It was a little confusing for a while, but they were asking customers to bear with them until it got finished and it looks really great."
Some of the other improvements included 35 new registers; two grab-and-go entrances; an expanded beer and wine department in grocery; an updated auto care center; fresh paint and fixtures; an updated electronics department with interactive displays; and an updated pharmacy.
The store now has a private mother's room for moms to nurse their babies. The infant area has been increased to allow for more space to shop for items such as furniture and strollers. A new fresh baby food area has been added. And digital screens have been added to customer service and deli departments.
